Greek Lamb Marinade

I tried this out to make gyros and it turned out great! Of course, I don't have the nifty rotisserie greek restaurants do, so I cut some lamb steak into thin strips, soaked it in the marinade, and sauteed it. Then I put it on some pita bread with some tzatziki and sliced red onion. I'll dig up the tzatziki recipe - it was really good and authentic according to the friend who gave it to me.

3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 tsp. bay leaf
salt and pepper to taste

Stir it up, pour it over the meat. Soak it for a few hours or so. Enjoy! My kids even liked it.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! You just saved me from breaking the bank at the new gyro place that just moved it down the street! We've been eating there like every other night. I can't wait to try this!!! Any trick to picking out and buying lamb?

Hahaha!!!! My friend just introduced me to gyros last month and I am hooked too! Well, I went to Larry's and I bought some lamb steaks from their meat counter and I sliced it up as thin as I could. You can put it on pita or naan bread. The sauce is pretty easy.

This recipe takes me back. We used to raise sheep while I was growing up and this marinade includes everything good we used to use on our lamb roasts. It's also amazing on shish kabobs grilled with sweet potatoes, onions, bell peppers, and red potatoes. Brush the veggies with reserved marinade while they're grilling. Deeeelicious (to quote Jake)
